Transport

Airport shuttle

Vienna International Airport is about 19 kilometers from the city centre. A bit too far to trudge with you luggage.

It's a better idea to take the express bus to or from the City Air Terminal (Wien Mitte/Landstraúe). It costs ATS 70 and departs every half an hour. There is an hourly bus service from the South and West Stations (SÝd- and Westbahnhof) as well.

The cheapest way to reach the city is by train: buy a ticket for one zone and take the Schnellbahn (rapid transit) to the centre. This takes about 30 minutes longer than the journey by express bus.

Vienna City Transport

Vienna`s public transport network contains trams, buses and the underground, so getting around in town is easy. The Vienna Card helps you to save money while you discover the city. You can buy it at your Vienna Hotel and at Tourist Information Offices, at Vienna Transport (Wiener Linien) sales counters and information offices (e.g. Stephansplatz, Karlsplatz, Westbahnhof, Landstrasse/Wien Mitte) or from outside Vienna with your credit card by phone. +43-1-798 44 00-28.

Night buses

You enjoyed a great night out at the theatre, had a fantastic dinner and went to a bar till late in the evening - but you don`t want to spend the money for a taxi to your hotel?

The Vienna Night buses ("Nightlines") are the ideal service for night owls. They run approximately every half an hour every night after normal service on trams and buses has stopped. You can find maps with timetables at all major tram and bus stops.

Price for one night bus journey: ATS 30.-, Children: ATS 15.-. Buy your ticket from the driver.

Taxis

Radio taxi telephone numbers: 313 00, 401 00, 601 60, 17 18. The current price is indicated on the officially calibrated meter. The basic charge is higher during the night (11 p.m. - 6 a.m.) and on Sundays and public holidays.

Charge for taxis ordered by radio: ATS 12. There is a special charge for taxis to and from the airport (outside the city borders).

Experience Vienna and its surrounding countryside by bike. Vienna has over 800 kilometers of bike paths. Biking is a great way to see the city close up, in a healthy and enviromently friendly way. Bike Rentals: Pedal Power at http://www.pedalpower.at/

Many of the city's sights can be visited by bicycle. For example, you can easily get to all the major sights at the Ringstrasse by bike. A bicylce is also the ideal way to explore Vienna's large recreation areas, the Prater, the Lobau or the "Danube Island".
